More victims of ‘con artist who gave women a disease’ come forward, police say

More female victims of a sex offender and con artist have come forwarded, saying they were duped into sleeping with the man, who gave them an infectious disease, Tel Aviv police said Sunday.

The suspect, a resident of southern Israel named Dekel Shashunker, was arrested last month on suspicion of impersonating a police officer, fraud and “spreading a disease”, for allegedly posing as an undercover police officer in order to have sex with a 17-year-old girl against her will.

On Thursday a Tel Aviv judge banned publication of the disease that he is suspected of passing to his victims, a ban which is still in place. With the ban lifted, police asked for public assistance in finding additional victims, saying that they suspect he used the same methods to snare other victims and due to fears that other people could fall ill.
