Motive of Colorado shooting? ‘No more baby parts’

Robert Lewis Dear, apparently motivated by opposition to abortion, killed three people and injured 9 others on Friday at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Investigators are now saying the shooting spree appears to have been motivated by Dear's opposition to legal abortions in the US.

Vicki Cowart, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Rocky Mountains, stated: "Today, we are learning that eyewitnesses confirm that the man who will be charged with the tragic and senseless shooting that resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to nine others at Planned Parenthood's health center in Colorado Springs was motivated by opposition to safe and legal abortion."

Police are not saying whether the gunman deliberately targeted the clinic, insisting that further investigation angles will be pursued. However, reported words of the suspect as he was arrested, "no more baby parts", could refer to an anti-abortion campaign against the clinic’s operators, Planned Parenthood, providing fetal tissue in research.

The organization says it is proud of its contribution to medical science declaring that "extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country."

The controversy has renewed US President Barack Obama’s call for tighter gun control, saying "enough is enough". President Obama's gun control efforts to restrict access to certain weapons, including assault rifles, have been opposed in Congress.
