Netanyahu backs IDF chief in face of ‘political attacks’

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu waded on Sunday into the swirling controversy over Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot comments last week about the rules of engagement in confronting terrorists, saying the debate over his comments was “futile” and used for ‘political attacks.”

“Last week there was debate surrounding the words of the chief of staff,” Netanyahu said at the top of the weekly cabinet meeting, after coming under criticism over the weekend for not weighing in on the matter.
