Notable Rabbi Haim Druckman opens up on conversion, Ethiopian integration and Shavuot

The holiday of Shavuot is intimately associated with the Biblical story of Ruth, the Moabite woman who married into the Jewish people, converted to Judaism and whose grandson, the Book of Ruth notes, became King David, the symbol of Jewish national unity and sovereignty.

Ruth is seen as the very paradigm of the righteous convert and the Biblical book devoted to her story is read on Shavuot to parallel her acceptance of the Torah to the Biblical account of the acceptance by the entire Jewish people of the Torah at Mount Sinai which is commemorated on this holiday.
