Possible terror attack: 1 killed, 7 injured in Beitar accident

A 65 year-old woman was killed and seven people injured in a head-on collision overnight Saturday/Sunday, at the bypass outside Husan (near Beitar Illit) on Route 375.

United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom (MDA) medics administered medical treatment at the scene before transferring the injured to Jerusalem-area hospitals.

"When I arrived at the scene, I saw an accident involving three vehicles," Yossi Reinitz, chief of United Hatzalah's Beitar Illit branch, stated early Sunday. "One woman, a driver, died at the scene due to the nature of her serious injuries."

"Likewise, we administered medical treatment to another driver with moderate injuries and passengers with light injuries who had been affected from the crash," he continued. "With the help of MDA staff, they were transported to Jerusalem hospitals, and ZAKA staff from Beitar Illit retrieved the [driver's] body."

A 60 year-old woman with moderate injuries to her chest and head and a 19 year-old with moderate injuries to his limbs were transferred to Hadassah Ein Kerem and Sha'arei Tzedek hospitals, MDA said. A 50 year-old man was also transported to hospital and is listed in fair condition. Three children at the scene were treated but did not require hospitalization.

An Israel Police representative stated Sunday that an initial investigation points to one car deviating from its lane for the accident; there is speculation it may have begun with a rock-throwing attack. Details of the incident remain under investigation.
