Rivlin to Birthright Excel participants: We have no other homeland.

The biggest challenge faced by today’s youth is ensuring that Israel does not forget its Jewish and democratic roots, President Reuven Rivlin told a group of 84 North American and Israeli college and university students in the midst of a 10 week internship program with leading Israeli high tech companies and investment banks.

The internship, known as "Excel", is a project created on the tenth anniversary of Birthright Israel by the Steinhardt, Schusterman and Singer Family Foundations. Today, it is one of the most prestigious and sought after internship programs by potential young leaders, Birthright Israel CEO Gidi Mark told Rivlin when he accompanied the current crop of interns to their meeting with the president on Wednesday.

The 84 participants were selected from an applicant pool of thousands, he said.
