Row, row, row your boat

Israel’s first university boat race was held at the Yarkon River on Saturday, with Tel Aviv University beating Weizmann Institute of Science in the 1,000-meter rowing competition.

The race was contested between eight-oared sweep racing shell teams which had trained for the event over recent months at the Daniel Rowing Center in Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv University won in a time of 3:59.31 minutes, 12 seconds ahead of Weizmann Institute.

Both sides plan to make the Israel university boat race an annual tradition, inspired by the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, which was held for the first time in 1829 and has been contested annually since 1856.
