State Comptroller: Infrastructure unprepared for extreme weather

Despite some improvements made following previous severe weather incidents, the country’s infrastructure is still ill equipped to handle future blizzards or other crises of nature, State Comptroller Joseph Shapira found in his latest special report on Tuesday.

Evaluating the performance of the country’s electricity and transportation authorities, as well as local municipalities and councils, Shapira examined whether lessons learned during the “unusually strong” December 2013 blizzard and the January-February 2015 wintry weather were being properly implemented. While acknowledging some improvements since, the state comptroller identified many deficiencies in the country’s emergency preparedness.
