Support for Bar Ilan U’s Veto of Gay Event

Prof. Hillel Weiss, a prominent lecturer on literature at Bar Ilan University, is happy about the university's decision to veto a “gay pride” event that students wanted to hold in the campus's central square.

Weiss told Arutz Sheva that he is proud of the university “for refusing to allow people who represent this abomination to hold their events in the open space. They are damaging humanity and the fact that someone is blocking it gives me great joy.”

The professor lauded the university's management for making the unpopular decision. “Bar Ilan is a religious university that is committed to Torah values, and there we are talking about serious matters. Thank God, the university had the courage, and I am gad that just as the Left is currently in a huge downward swing, the same thing is happening in these matters, which it represents as well.”

Weiss said he has nothing against homosexual students. “I do not persecute people on a private basis, even if they are homosexuals or lesbians. I have a problem with their organizing, because this causes destruction of families and of sanctity.”

"They cause a situation in which, like Europe, childbirth will go down to zero, and cause horrible situations like surrogacy and exploitation, as we saw in Nepal,” Weiss added – a reference to the Israeli homosexual couples who were stranded with newborn babies in Nepal, after hiring Indian surrogate mothers for them. “I'm glad the university placed a proud, red line in this matter, and of the Jewish Home, which also presented its views on this subject without stuttering, in the election.”

MK Tzipi Livni (Zionist Union) said after the decision: “I was proud to be an alumnus of Bar Ilan University – until I heard of the position they took vis-a-vis the gay community.”

MK Stav Shaffir of the same party called the decision “unbelievable chutzpah.”
