Supreme Court: No jail for Olmert pending Talansky conviction appeal

Supreme Court Justice Yitzhak Amit on Wednesday ruled that former prime minister Ehud Olmert will not have to start his eight month jail sentence from his conviction for corruption in the Talansky retrial pending his appeal.

The ruling came as the state made a surprise announcement at the hearing that it would not oppose postponing Olmert’s sentence pending the appeal.

Amit rebuked the state for not agreeing in advance of the hearing leading to an unnecessary waste of the Supreme Court’s and other’s time.
