Syria: Israel will fail to create security strip in Golan thanks to ‘popular resistance’

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said on Sunday that “Israel’s attempt to create a security strip in the Golan will fail thanks to the presence of the ‘popular resistance’ in the region, just like it failed to do so in Lebanon thanks to Hezbollah.” The foreign minister

was speaking in an interview to be broadcast on the Iranian state TV’s Arabic-language channel Al-Alam on Monday.

The minister further said that “efforts are made on the part of the Syrian army and the popular resistance in the Golan to curb Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria, and Israel’s plans.” He added: “Hezbollah’s cooperation in fighting terrorism in Syria was one of the organization’s smartest decisions.”
