Tel Aviv Military Court demotes former Givati commander for sexual misconduct

A Tel Aviv Military Court ruled on Thursday morning that former Givati Brigade battalion commander Lt.-Col. Liran Hajbi was to be demoted in rank and discharged from the army after being convicted of inappropriate sexual misconduct with a much lower ranking female soldier, including kissing her against her will.

The court ruled that Hajbi inflicted severe emotional damage against the younger female officer and rejected Hajbi’s earlier plea to keep his rank despite his conviction made in a mid-June hearing.

“I know that I did not act appropriately, that I crossed a line,” Hajbi told the court during proceedings last month. At the same time, he argued his expulsion from the IDF was a harsh enough punishment, saying, “Enough, others have also crossed the line.”
