Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has responded to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's statement allegedly denouncing Hamas's continued tunnel building.
"Hamas is a murderous terror organization and its denouncement by the Secretary-General is a necessary step in reality," said Danon. "The UN must be a significant factor in the fight against terror and the Secretary-General must be a sharp, clear, and uncompromising voice about terror wherever it may be."
It should be noted that, since Danon took up his role, the Israeli delegation to the UN has sent several sharply-worded messages to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, demanding that he denounce Palestinian terrorism.
During his last speech at the Security Council, Danon presented information about Hamas's continued terror activities in Gaza, with an emphasis on using materials intended to rebuild Gaza in order to build terror tunnels. The Secretary-General's denouncement this evening, says a political official, is a direct continuation of the Israeli delegation's diplomatic efforts.
In general, it could be said that there has been "significant tension" between Danon and the Secretary-General recently, over the continued wave of Arab terror throughout Israel.
Danon has been vocal about a number of anti-Israel and anti-Semitic occurrences at the world body. When Iran has announced its Holocaust-denying cartoon contest, Danon demanded that Ban immediately denounce the contest, which he did on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
