Tensions remain high in Rahat after two die in clashes with police

Violent clashes between police and rioters in Rahat continued overnight on Monday when a group of masked men threw rocks at the local police stations and torched tires and burned dumpsters nearby.

Southern District police said they arrested six people during the clashes, but did not use “crowd dispersal methods” – a term referring to non-lethal means such as tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber bullets.

Tension remains high in the Beduin city in the Negev, where over the past week two locals have died during clashes with police.
