Police and Border Patrol forces arrested overnight Thursday a terrorist released from jail several years ago during the Gilad Shalit prisoner swap deal.
Shalit, an IDF soldier serving on the border of Gaza, was kidnapped by Hamas in 2006. He was released after five years in captivity in 2011 in exchange for the release of 1,027 security prisoners.
The arrest Thursday was carried out based on intelligence information gathered at the police precinct in Ma'aleh Adumim; both Ma'aleh Adumim police officers and Border Patrol guards participated in the investigation.
The suspect, a resident of Abu Dis, is suspected of involvement in recent terror activities including throwing firebombs and other explosives at Israeli security forces.
As security forces pulled out of Abu Dis after the arrest, they were attacked by Palestinian mobs who threw stones at and damaged police vehicles. There were no injuries.
Security forces in the Hevron District also arrested two Palestinian terrorists, aged 19 and 20, overnight Thursday.
The pair, residents of Nahalin, are accused of setting the security fence on fire and causing damage to the security infrastructure between Nahalin and Beitar Illit in the Jerusalem area.
During interrogation, one of the suspects admitted to setting the security fence near Beitar Illit ablaze two months ago. The second suspect denied all allegations.
