UNIFIL, IDF, Lebanese officials hold meeting on strengthening stability in Lebanon

UNIFIL commander Maj. Gen. Luciano Portolano met with Lebanese and IDF officials at the UN position at Ras al-Naqoura crossing on Wednesday to discuss the strengthening of stability in Lebanon following Hezbollah’s missile attack that killed two soldiers in retaliation for an Israeli air strike that killed six of its fighters, Lebanon’s Daily Star newspaper reported on Wednesday. According to the paper, the main issue that was discussed was the continued implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War.

During the meeting, the UNIFIL chief delivered a message on behalf of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, expressing concern over the worsening state of security in Lebanon’s southern border. He also urged all sides to refrain from actions that would undermine stability in the area, the paper said.
