US Consulate in Jerusalem expels security staff over drug-smuggling suspicions

The US Consulate in Jerusalem expelled nine of its American security guards on suspicion they smuggled dangerous drugs such as cocaine, illegal steroids and date rape drugs from the West Bank to west Jerusalem in vehicles bearing diplomatic plates.

The affair was uncovered following complaints from a Palestinian civilian whose daughter works for the Consulate. The father claimed that the guards had smuggled drugs to the western part of the capital, and that Palestinians working in security positions at the US Consulate served as mediators between the guards and the drug dealers.
