While Israelis are still recovering from shock after it was revealed that their government has been holding secret talks with the PA about keeping the IDF out of Palestinian cities, the US is dismissing the story.
State Department Spokesperson John Kirby says that the US has no knowledge of such discussions. "All of the sides are looking for a solution to reduce the violence, but we are not familiar with this issue."
He added that, in his opinion, there are no such organized efforts, "otherwise we would know something like this was happening."
Another US official said that the turmoil is just spin, though he is unable to figure out who is responsible for it.
"Israel updates the US when there is something to update about, something related to the peace process. A step like this has long-term effects and could bring strong criticism against Netanyahu. Why would he hold talks with such a small chance of success, and take the risk of publication and political attacks?"
Diplomatic officials told Arutz Sheva this morning (Tuesday) that the report referred to ideas that arose in the security establishment, but which have not been brought up in an actual discussion. They added that there was no intention to implement them in practice.
