WASHINGTON – The United States and its allies staged 27 air strikes on Islamic State forces in Iraq and Syria in a 24-hour period, the Combined Joint Task Force said in a statement on Monday.
Nine of the strikes were concentrated near Kobani, Syria, where Islamic State militants were reported withdrawing after advances by Kurdish
and Arab forces, and hit tactical units, staging areas and a vehicle. An Islamic State checkpoint was struck near Dayr as Zawr, Syria, the statement said. The allied forces also staged 17 air strikes that targeted Islamic State near 10 Iraqi cities. Several tactical units and fighting positions were hit, along with vehicles, equipment, a storage facility and a bunker, the task force said.
