Watch: US Army Chief Inspects IDF Guard of Honor

The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford, reviewed a guard of honor at the Israel Defense Forces' Kirya headquarters in Tel Aviv on Sunday morning, at the start of his official visit to Israel.

In his first official state visit outside of the US since his appointment on October 1, Dunford will be holding a series of meetings with top Israeli military and intelligence officials, including his counterpart, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot.

Among the topics to be discussed will be the Syrian civil war, Russia's growing footprint in Syria, and the two countries' strategic and intelligence activities vis-a-vis Iran following the recent nuclear deal reached with the Islamic regime.

IDF commanders see that deal – which will provide Iran with billions of dollars in sanctions relief and trade deals, as well as unprecedented regional prestige – as a strategic turning point.
