‘When the terrorist started shooting, I knew I had to stop him’

Speaking with Arutz Sheva, Hagai Klein described the harrowing moments when a terrorist opened fire on on the Sarona Market in Tel Aviv.

Klein, who was wounded in the course of the attack, tackled the shooter, despite the great personal risk.

Today Klein is recovering in Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital, where he has made a rapid recovery from the injuries he suffered in the attack.

“About a week and a half ago, on a regular evening, I was sitting in Benedict Cafe in Sarona. I was enjoying myself, eating, like a usually do, when I suddenly identified a man shooting,” recalled Klein.

“I intervened to bring an end to the incident in the knowledge that it could come at a heavy personal price. I saw a person shooting, and I understood that I needed to neutralize him, so I charged at him with whatever I had.”

When asked how he managed to stop the terrorist, Klein responded, “I jumped on him.”

Klein noted that since the attack, he has enjoyed an outpouring of public support, with visitors from around the world coming to wish him a speedy recovery.

“Just last Tuesday it really wasn't clear that I would be standing here and talking to you like this. My rapid recovery was due largely to the dedicated, caring treatment I received… You feel like the entire hospital is mobilized and stands behind you, and it gives you an amazing feeling to go on.”

“My family and I merited over the past week to receive so much support from so many people from across the spectrum – family, friends, strangers; from Israel and abroad. So many people. I want to thank everyone who embraced me.”

“Finally, I want to send my condolences to the other victims of this terror attack and other incidents, and to share in the sadness of the families of those who were killed."
