World’s Biggest Mezuzah Submitted to Guinness World Records

An Israeli designer may have recently unveiled the world's largest mezuzah, a casing with parchment bearing the Shema prayer that is affixed to the door frames in Jewish homes and buildings.

Yaakov Merdinger worked for five months on this mezuzah, which measures 182 cm (about 5'11") in height, 7 cm (2.75 inches) in diameter, and weighs about 9 kilograms (19.8 lbs).

Merdinger has been invited to Ukraine by a local Jewish businessman there to display the mezuzah, and the feat has also been submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The mezuzah was fashioned out of silver, with three decorative and supportive posts with Corinthian-inspired finials. The mezuzah is also decorated with two gold-plated crowns in a European lace pattern.

The mezuzah is also for sale, for the hefty asking price of $36,000.
