Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud) visited the Judea town of Otniel on Tuesday together with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
He received briefings regarding the attack that took the life of Dafna Meir and the capture of the terrorist from the head of Central Command Major General Roni Numa, and the Hevron Brigade Commander, Colonel Yariv ben Ezra. He then paid his respects to the Meir family.
Ya'alon said during the visit that “I wish to offer my consolation to Natan and the children over the death of Dafna his wife and their mother. Israel has come to know Dafna, as a mother, and a wife but mostly as a woman who was very active, an erudite woman, as a woman of valor."
"Our great loss has been highlighted even more so by learning that the murderer was a fifteen year old boy, who grew up not too far away, and who was taught from childhood to hate and to sanctify death," Ya'alon continued. "Both this child and the one who committed the attack in Tekoa. Both grew up that way."
"It is obvious that the Palestinian Authority’s education system is responsible," he charged. "Both the education system and the establishment. The kids grow up going through their system, and this is the result.”
"IDF forces stopped this despicable terrorist not too far from here," Ya'alon added. "I wish to praise the IDF and the central command as well as the Israeli Security Agency, the Border Police and the Israel Police for their hard work to bring security and safety to the people who live here."
"There is a wave of terror, but we know how to overcome it, of that I have no doubt," he stressed. "We need to be firm, we need to be patient, we need to be aware, but at the end of it all, we need know that we will persevere.”
