“Some call me crazy for taking this on,” says Yoni Hikind. The NYC Council Candidate is referring to an election no one expected could take place after the sitting Councilman resigned from running and handed his signature ballots to a crony, leaving no time for normal primaries. It was a sneaky move, condemned by good government groups, and meant to eliminate the democratic process.
But Yoni remains undaunted.
In a new video, Yoni Hikind reveals his real motivation for taking on this difficult fight.
“I’ve always believed this time would come because, in my heart, I always wanted to make a difference in people’s lives—to be there for people who are in need,” he says. “Just being there for people. It’s as simple as that. It’s what I saw all my life, growing up in my home. It’s what was taught to me from the beginning.”
People from all walks of Brooklyn life—Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus; the young and the old—explain on the video why they are passionately supporting Yoni. His message is inclusive, and the video is startlingly genuine.
“I’ve learned three simple lessons from my father,” Yoni concludes. “Do your part, never be scared to do what’s right… and never give up.”
