MK Hanin Zoabi (Joint List) recently visited the US in a trip that was funded by foreign elements and approved by the Knesset, reported Walla! news Monday.
She starred in a conference at New York City's Columbia University named “Israel, Racism and Apartheid – an Inside Look with Hanin Zoabi,” but had not told the Knesset ahead of time that she would be participating in that conference.
According to the news site, Zoabi did not violate the law in failing to inform the Knesset of the conference, since MKs are not legally bound to include their entire planned itinerary in requests for approval of trips abroad.
However, the website said, it is possible that Zoabi broke the Knesset's rules by attending an event that labels Israel as an apartheid state.
In the course of the conference, she reportedly said that Israel is “a country that is run as a racist Zionist project.”
MK Sharon Gal of Yisrael Beytenu said in response: “There is a terrorist among us and we continue to shut our eyes and let this phenomenon run wild, and operate against the existence of Israel as a Jewish state.”
